National Story Telling Week

Monday 2nd - Sunday 8th February 2026

"Created by Society for Storytelling, this fantastic annual event is a joyful celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world; they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy; they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills. National Storytelling Week 2026 is a celebration of oral storytelling, reading and writing for pleasure. At a time when young people’s writing and reading enjoyment levels are at their lowest, National Storytelling Week has never been more important." - The National Literacy Trust

The 5 a Day Story Sack Challenge

This year we challenged our families to a 5 a day story telling challenge for National Story Telling Week! It's was as easy as 1,2,3 (4, 5!). We asked our grown ups to give their little ones the chance to hear 5 stories every day for 7 days between the 2nd and 8th February, share some feedback about theirstory journey with us and as a well done we gave away a FREE story play session! I know there are LOTS of reasons many families will feel they can't read 5 stories a day but hear me out - it's not as hard as you think! Click on the links below to hear some of my thoughts on how you can get those stories in.

We'll be running the competition again next year (or maybe even again this year!) so come back soon!

Keep track of your stories with stickers or by colouring the books as you go! There's also a colouring page for you to tell us about your favourite story. You can send these to us with your feedback at the end of the challenge!

Why reading 5 stories every day MATTERS
